Tyner Middle Academy (Hamilton County, Tennessee)
Tyner Middle Academy is a middle-school (grades 6-8) located at 6837 Tyner Road in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The school's building has been used for over 100 years and was originally erected in 1907 as Tyner High School (now known as Tyner Academy). This was the first secondary school to open in Hamilton County, Tennessee, east of Missionary Ridge, and running water and electricity were not provided to the school until the 1920s. Tyner High School relocated directly across the street into a new building during 1937. ==Historical Notes on the School Building==
According to the (Hamilton County Genealogical Society Website ), the citizens of Tyner congregated at the new school in November 1907 to dedicate the building. The original request for a new high school in Tyner was made by W. H. Varnell and the land for the school was purchased for $250 from J. R. Smith.
